So, I happened to mention a book on Twitter the other day and one of my friends asked me about it. I then proceeded to spam her with descriptions and links and general fangirling. My friend, instead of being truly weirded out by my craziness, said she’d check out the books and thanked me. I happily told the story to my writing group and they were all, “What was the book?” And I told them and several of them hadn’t read it and said they were going to buy it.
My grin couldn’t get any bigger.
I LOVE recommending books to people. I LOVE suggesting a book that I just KNOW someone will fall in love with as I have.
So I figured I’d do a somewhat regular (don’t hold me to a schedule) book/author recommendation starting with the author that prompted this.
If I ever met her, I would shamelessly fangirl all over her. I don’t think I could stop myself. She’s a mom and an author with several books under her belt and more coming out. I couldn’t have more awe for the woman (as a mom and an author myself).
I first read THE PLEDGE when it came out and loved it. The theme is all about the power of words and what you say and its impact on those around you. It’s clever and thought-provoking. So I thought I’d look up what else she wrote.
My grandmother gave me the first two BODY FINDER books for Christmas (THE BODY FINDER and DESIRES OF THE DEAD) and I read them both in 3 days. Not kidding. I couldn’t put them down. I love, love, love them and am anxiously awaiting the release of THE LAST ECHO next Tuesday, April 17th.
They are creepy and awesome and romantic and swoony and tense and page-turners. What I love most about them (other than Jay…pardon me) is that the reactions to various situations, both good and bad, scary and romantic, are real. Like, normal. Like I remember being that age and being all caught up in a crush or a first love and smacking myself mentally going, “What is wrong with you?” But I couldn’t help it.
Violet and Jay (and the rest of the motley crew) are real and believable. And, yeah, there’s that crazy thing with Violet being able to sense murdered bodies and their killers BUT HEY.
If you’re looking for a good creepy mystery/thriller with a lovely romance all neatly intertwined, please pick up these books. I love them. I have my favorite scenes bookmarked and I reread them all the time.
